PARYS – HANDEL, NYWERHEDE EN BESIGHEDE
Naas boerdery het Parys reeds in 1890 begin om die besonderse pienk Parys Graniet te ontgin.
Parys het vroeg ook al ‘n baie suksesvolle konfyt- en lekkergoedfabriek gehad (Mnr HH Blemish). Nadat die regering in 1910 die subsidies gestaak het, het die fabriek gesluit en die geboue is later deur Parys Creamery and Condensmilk oorgeneem.
1905 het die Departement van Bosbou ‘n klomp wilger-steggies aan Parys gegee om in die moerasgedeeltes te plant. Dit het floreer en in ‘n baie suksesvolle Rottang en Mandjie fabriek het ontwikkel.
1938 was daar tabakfabrieke, ‘n fabriek wat skuite bou, spin- en weefskole en twee koringmeulens in Parys.
Later jare (1951) was hier ook ‘n baie suksesvolle sykous-fabriek- ARWA.

PARYS INDUSTRIES
The members of the council are at all times anxious to promote and foster industries, which will in any way assist in advancing the interests of the inhabitants and visitors to the town, and a proof of this can be seen in the local industries which are now established, and which all visitors should inspect.
IRRIGATION
All the land in the township amounting to nearly 2000 acres, is well irrigated, and the water rate is wonderfully cheap…
Purchasers of land can be assured of facilities for growing all the fruit and vegetables they require, and further, any surplus may readily be disposed of either locally or in Johannesburg, which is within such easy reach. Strawberries grow remarkably well, and there is an unlimited demand for this fruit on the Rand.
Lucerne thrives luxuriantly, and by growing this fodder landowners are able to keep their own cows and sell their surplus milk to the local condensed milk factory, which is capable of using all the milk produced in Parys for years to come
Osiers also do very well, and there is practically an unlimited demand for this product at the local basket factory
It will thus be seen that purchasers of land not only have the advantage of owning their own property, but are also in the position to earn a substantial income from the products of the soil they cultivate.
Fruit grows exceedingly well; on fact, the town is practically an enormous orchard
PARYS BASKET WORKS
The factory is situated on the premises of the creamery and condensed milk factory, and a visit to the works will be well repaid.
All descriptions of wicker work are manufactured, including chairs, tables, baskets, hampers, etc., the raw material (osiers) from which they are made being grown in Parys.
The articles turned out by this industry are far superior to the usual “Madeira” work, and in addition to this the prices are as cheap and in some cases cheaper.
CONDENSED MILK FACTORY
No history of Parys would be complete without reference to the condensed milk factory. With the assistance of the Union Government and the Town Council, this industry, which combined milk condensing with butter-making , and is the first of its kind in the interior of South Africa…
It is estimated that there are already over 1000 cows in Parys.
Dairy farmers may be assured of a good income from the sale of their milk and cream to the condensed milk factory.
SPINNING AND WEAVING DEPOT
A spinning and weaving depot has recently been opened in Parys, and excellent cloth, blankets, rugs, etc. may be seen in the process of manufacture.
